Waste Reduction and the Circular Economy

The amount of waste we produce as businesses can be very large. It is important to understand where our waste comes from, how much we produce, and how we dispose of it. This workshop will cover topics related to waste management and reduction along with providing tools and strategies for reducing output and ensuring waste is disposed of properly.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Identify sources of waste within their business operations
  • Learn how to monitor waste production
  • Understand the impacts of different disposal methods through the Waste Hierarchy
  • Apply circular economic principles and other strategies to brainstorm ways to reduce waste production in the business
  • Create a whole systems map of their business operations and identify high impact areas
  • Identify and prioritise actions for a waste action plan for their organisation

EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CRSD)

This workshop aims to give an overview of the CSRD and what it entails, including scope, reporting requirements, and timeline. After the basics of the legislation have been discussed we will dive into the specifics of how SMEs will be impacted and how they can prepare. Specific consideration will be given to double materiality and identifying impacts that are relevant to the participating organisation.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Know the key points of the CSRD
  • Understand what may be expected of them from their larger partners that are required to report
  • Identify which reporting categories are material to their business
  • Understand the concept of double materiality and how to conduct an assessment
  • Have an idea of first steps that can be taken to prepare for requests from their bigger partners and for future SME regulations
  • Complete an activity in which they identify which reporting categories are material to their business
  • Identify the importance of their value chain in a double materiality assessment
